I added a cup of homemade chicken broth instead of 1/4 and some canyeen pepper. And the end result was a magnificent spicy juice to eat with it. It knocks the cold right off. Made it for a potluck and everyone loved it.

This is an excellent base recipe for sausage gravy. But don’t let the grease go to waste by draining it off. Just brown the sausage longer then add more flour to absorb the grease and its flavor. If can, to find Blue & Gold Sausage. It is sold as school fundraisers. I like to add just a little of liquid hickory smoke. It gives your gravy a campfire touch. But for the ultimate filling breakfast, serve your gravy over a buttered, baked potato.
