Coconut Oil Chocolate Chip Cookies

The term “healthier” has different definitions to different people, agreed?  I substituted coconut oil for butter and used white whole wheat flour therefore I am calling these my “healthier” cookie 🙂

Grab some coconut oil and add it into a bowl.

How to Make Healthier Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a large baking sheet with a silpat liner or parchment paper.

  2. Place softened coconut oil into a large mixing bowl. Stir in sugars, beating until well combined. Add egg and vanilla, beating well.

  3. Add flour, baking soda, salt and chocolate chips, stirring until dough forms.

  4. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheet, placing 1 inch apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until slightly golden around the edges. Remove and let cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring. Serve and enjoy.

Add-in the pure vanilla extract and give a good mix.

Once you’ve mixed the ingredients. Add in Gold Medal Flour’s white whole wheat flour. White whole wheat has the same nutritional value as regular whole wheat but is better for baking due to it’s taste.

I love the texture that the coconut oil gives these cookies. You still get the crispy buttery-like edges with soft centers. Enjoy!!

Just made these and they’re terrific – maybe even better than butter. Used whole wheat pastry flour and dark chocolate chips. Thanks – this is a good one!

Thanks Lisa! Hope you are doing well. Love seeing your cute family on Instagram. Mason is getting soooo big! Crazy how fast time goes 🙂 xo

Extra virgin works also. If you’re wondering, research has shown that there isn’t a difference between “extra virgin” and “virgin” for coconuts. We do buy coconut oil designated “raw”. 🙂

Oh my goodness!!! I just made these, and they are fantastic! My husband and 2 1/2 year old daughter keep asking for more…guess I should have waited until AFTER dinner to make them! 🙂 My only regret is that they are so good, I can’t guarantee I’ll do well with portion control! Thanks for sharing these. I just found your site, so I can’t wait to try more of your yummy recipes!

  9. Nikki @Seeded at the Table

I recently used coconut oil instead of butter in my favorite CCC recipe, too! (After much convincing from my healthy mother-in-law.) The cookies were surprisingly even better! 🙂 Now I’ll have to try using whole wheat flour!

Oh, CURSE you coconut allergy!! One of my kids has a coconut allergy, which makes me SO sad that I can’t embrace the new healthier cooking trend with coconut oil? Do you have any other suggestions for replacing the butter to make it healthier??
