Candy Cane Cookies

Baking cookies this time of year is best isn’t it? I can’t get enough. Treat your family and friends to my Christmas cookies, they’ll all be thrilled! Adding candy cane bits to my favorite cookie dough was a fantastic idea. Not only is the red color fun and festive, the texture that the melted little candy cane bits bring to these cookies are amazing! Can’t wait for you to try them!

What You’ll Need

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make candy cane cookies at home! See the recipe card located at the bottom of the post for full instructions.

  • butter– For most of my baking I use salted butter, but unsalted works fine too.
  • granulated sugar– This fine sugar gives the cookies their sweetness.
  • brown sugar- Light brown sugar works great for this recipe.
  • eggs– For consistency, I use large eggs for my baking.
  • pure vanilla extract– For best tasting results use pure vanilla.
  • all-purpose flour– Flour is the main dry ingredient for the cookies.
  • box of Vanilla Instant Pudding– Find instant pudding mix in the baking section of the grocery store near the cake mixes.
  • kosher salt– Kosher salt is a coarse salt. I prefer using it in my cooking and baking.
  • baking soda– Baking soda helps the cookies rise during baking
  • chocolate chips– Use your favorite chocolate chips.
  • candy cane bits– Find candy cane bits in the baking section during the Holidays in many grocery stores. Amazon sells them too. I’ve also found them at TJ Maxx Home Goods and World Market.

How To Make Christmas Chocolate Chip Cookies

Preheat Oven to 350 Degrees F. and line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cream Butter and Sugars. Cream butter and sugars in stand mixer or large bowl with spoon. Add egg and vanilla mixing until well combined.

Add Dry Ingredients. Slowly stir in flour, pudding mix, salt and baking soda. Mix partially then add chips and candy cane bits. Mix until dough forms then scoop onto baking sheet 1 inch apart.

Bake. Bake for 13-15 minutes or until baked through. Remove and let cool. If cookies have spread, take a knife right after out of the oven and shape if desired. Serve room temperature.

    I love the peppermint and chocolate flavor combination on this recipe, This is definitely the best! I will try making them this week and hoe that it would look and taste delicious like the one you made. Beside the peppermint, what else can i combine with chocolate?

    These popped up on Instagram at just the right time to add to my Christmas Cookie list. I used chocolate pudding, because it’s what I had. They were a little tough getting off of cookie sheet, with melty candy canes and all. But my husband and son love them.
