I love shopping for make-up, jewelry and all things sparkly.  The following are some fun Christmas stocking/gift ideas for “her” that are sure to make any girly girl smile :)

I have a little obsession with Essie Nail Polish and I’m loving these pretty shades of pink.  Left: Strawberry Shortcake, Nude Beach and True Love.  You can find Essie at Target now for about $7 a bottle, yay!

I am in love with this set by Fresh called Sugar Berry Merriment.  What a great deal for $28.

My very favorite purse essential is this “Cherry Me” stick by Maybelline.  It’s about $3, feels like chapstick with the perfect amount of tint.  This is available at most drugstores.   Perfect as a stocking stuffer!

Loving this J.Crew bangle that is on sale for $22!  You better hurry if you like this one, I have a feeling it’s going to be sold out very soon.

 

This fun set is by Tarte and it’s called The Stand Outs.  For $25, it’s a great stocking stuffer!

Loving these Dreamy Cotton pants from J.Crew.  A little pricy for $48, but I figure that when I wear loungwear as my “uniform” it’s nice to splurge on some comfies :)

One of my favorite Stella and Dot rings is on sale for $19.50!  This is the Midnight Bloom Ring, that is regularly $39.00 so it’s a smokin’ deal right now.  I love that it is adjustable too, so you know it’ll fit :)

Stella & Dot has some of the best stud earrings.  I own 2 out of 3 of these and they are my favorite “go to” earrings.  Beautiful quality and what a perk that they come in the cutest gift box ready for giving :)  From left to right we have the Black Gigi Studs for $24 The Swallow Studs for $19 and the lovely Vintage Studs for $29.

I am so excited about this beautiful cookbook “Decorating Cookies” by my friend Bridget Edwards of the fabulous blog Bake at 350.  She is so unbelievably talented.  Her cookies are the cutest things you’ve ever seen and now we can learn from the best!  How exciting is that?!  You can purchase her book on Amazon and Barnes and Noble to name a couple.

It’s funny, I’ve never met Bridget in person, but I swear I know her, lol!  Not sure how we’ve managed to miss each other over the years!  We need to meet soon girl!

Bridget was kind enough to share a recipe from her book with us, her Gingerbread Cookies.

Gingerbread Cookies by Bridget Edwards

Makes 18 to 30 cookies, depending on cookie size

“I find myself wanting to make gingerbread all year long—not just in winter! For a warm-weather treat, try sandwiching a mixture of lemon curd and marshmallow cream between two gingerbread cookies. You’ll never wait until December again! As far as gingerbread cookies go, I like them thick and chewy. If you like yours a bit crispier, just roll them thinner.”

51/2 cups unbleached, all-purpose flour

11/2 teaspoons baking soda

1/2 teaspoon coarse salt

11/2 tablespoons ground ginger

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, cold and cut into chunks

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

1 cup molasses

1 egg

Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 350°F. Line three cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves. Set this mixture aside. In the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, RECIPES cream together the butter and both sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in the molasses and egg. Mix until well combined.

Add the flour mixture in three parts, mixing on low speed until just combined. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed. Divide the dough in half and form into disks. Wrap each disk in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare a rolling surface and roll out one of the disks (see Rolling and Cutting Cookie Dough on page 23). Cut as many shapes from the dough as possible and place them onto a prepared cookie sheet, approximately 2 inches apart. Place the cookie sheet in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes. Freezing the cookies helps them keep their shape while baking. Meanwhile, knead the scraps and remaining dough together and continue the rolling, cutting, and freezing process on a second prepared cookie sheet.

After freezing, immediately bake the cookies on the center rack of your oven for 9 to 12 minutes, or until the cookies appear done in the center. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool for 2 minutes on the cookie sheet. With a thin cookie spatula, transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Rotate the cookie sheets from the freezer to the oven to the cooling rack until all of the cookies are baked.

Dinner

I had so much fun creating this recipe for www.calphalon.com/yourset.  I wanted to create a simple yet impressive dinner that the whole family would enjoy.  This is great for a Sunday dinner or even during the week.  With only a few ingredients needed, you can whip up this dinner in no time at all.  Calphalon, makes a beautiful AccuCore 3-quart Stainless Steel Saute pan that I am in love with.  Make sure you enter below the recipe to win a $500 Calphalon gift card to build your own set of cookware!

It’s so fun cooking in a brand new pan isn’t it?!  It’s shiny and fabulous just begging to be cooking in, lol!

Let’s start shall we?  Heat olive oil in your pan over medium heat.  Get the pan nice and hot.

Add your chicken pieces to the pan.

Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.

You are going to partially cook the chicken, browning on both sides, about 5 minutes each side.

Remove chicken from the pan to start the ragout.

You want to see these wonderful brown bits in the pan, this will season the sauce nicely.

Add your diced potatoes to the hot pot with browned bits.

Season your potatoes with a little salt and pepper.

Cook the potatoes for a few minutes to brown nicely.

Add your chopped onions and minced garlic.

Cook and stir for 5 additional minutes.

Add a can of crushed tomatoes right to the pan.

Give it a good stir.

Nestle your chicken pieces right in the sauce and potatoes and bake partially covered for about an hour.

I like to serve this dinner right in the pan.  This chicken is great served with spoonfuls of sauce or on top of cooked pasta.

Homemade Chicken Ragout

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 4 pieces chicken
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3-4 small russet potatoes, diced
  • 1 cup finely diced white onion
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil into 3 quart or larger sautee pan. Salt and pepper chicken pieces then carefully add them to hot pan. Brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. Transfer partially cooked chicken to a plate or some tin foil.
  2. With oil and browned bits still in pan, add potatoes, season lightly with salt and pepper then and onions, stirring until potatoes are browned and onions softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine then add partially cooked chicken sitting in sauce and potatoes. Place in oven and bake for 50-60 minutes until chicken is tender and cooked through. Remove and serve with chicken and sauce or over top cooked pasta.

Makes 4 Servings

I can hardly believe Picky Palate is 5 years old this month! I remember so vividly starting up Picky Palate one late night in AZ not having any idea what I was doing or where it would take me.

I could  not ask for a more perfect job that I love so much.  Creating recipes and sharing them with you is such a joy and I consider myself very blessed.

Never in a million years did I imagine I would someday have a cookbook!  My cookbook was released this week and I am still on cloud 9 about it.  Check it out if you haven’t, lots of love went into creating those recipes and pages, I am so thrilled to finally share it with you.  There are more than 100 new recipes not on Picky Palate!

Oh boy, this is quite fun to see my cookbook that I’ve been working on for almost 2 years come to life this week!  Today is the official release date which means you can purchase it in various stores and order it online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Books A Million.

For those of you who pre-ordered the book on Amazon, you have received it already.  It has been so much fun seeing Instagram photos of you receiving the book in the mail, makes me smile :) Thank you so much for sharing your pictures!

I’ll never forget the months while I was cooking and baking recipes like a mad woman preparing for the book back in 2010/early 2011.  I was in a tiny Newport Beach kitchen and ingredients were flying everywhere, lol!  It was fun, exhausting and exciting all at the same time.  I remember thinking, I can’t believe I am going to have my own cookbook.  Now, it’s really here!  All of that sweat and hard work has paid off and I finally get to share those recipes I’ve kept secret for so long :)

Another highlight for me through this journey was watching Matt Armendariz and Adam Pearson photograph and style my cookbook.  They are so unbelievably talented and made my recipes look just as incredible as they taste.  I won’t ever forget being able to watch them in action.

I feel so grateful to work with an amazing agent and team at Wiley, they have made this experience so special.

I hope you will all enjoy my book, the recipes were made with lots of love and I assure you they are incredible!!  There are over 100 new recipes you can’t find on Picky Palate :)  Enjoy!!

It’s fun Friday at Picky Palate!  Oh boy, Stella & Dot just came out with their new collection of jewelry just in time for the Holidays! Let’s just say I am in big trouble, lol! At least my birthday and wedding anniversary are in November, so I have some great excuses to shop right?

My very first purchase was this adorable Fox Ring by Alice Temperly, a famous British Designer who collaborated with Stella & Dot on a number of great pieces.  I can’t get over how cute this ring is and it absolutely had to be mine, lol!  There’s also an adorable matching fox necklace by Alice to go with it :)

Where do I even begin here.  How fabulous is this scarf?!  2 of my favorite colors, love it.  Another quick purchase for me was this Suzanne Cocktail Ring.  It’s not only adorable but it’s also only $39.00.  Yay!  The model is also wearing the Chimera Bangle, the Love Bracelet, and the Rhea Bangles.

2 more favorite pieces are these Swallow Stud earrings, only $19.00 and the Hope Bracelet, $32.00 which is a part of the Breast Cancer Awareness line and the proceeds go to the Noreen Fraser Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to raising women’s cancer research funds and promoting early detection awareness.

Loving the colors of their new iPhone case.  I might have to add this one to my wishlist.  It’s only $29 :)

Here’s another design by Alice Temperly for Stella & Dot.  How fun is this Wonderland Charm Necklace?.  You can wear it a number of ways.  Can’t wait for mine to arrive!!

Love this affordable sparkly Radiance Coil Bracelet for $29.  It will look great with any outfit.  If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll be seeing me with this one very soon, lol!
