Chit Chat Twenty Seventh Edition

It’s Friday! Time for some chit chat 🙂

I’d say I’m a pretty positive person, but I think I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. My 8 year old came into my room this morning at 2am coughing and I could not for the life of me go back to sleep after I got him back  to bed. Is this a “getting older” thing? Why on earth can’t I shut my brain off when I am woken up from a deep sleep. I gotta figure it out, because it’s now 4:20am and I’m wide awake, lol!

On a happier note, going to see “the Other Woman” tonight. I love a good chick flick comedy. It seems like these movies are few and far between lately. I swear the last good chick flick I saw was Safe Haven and that was forever ago. Bring back the chick flicks!

Flake Family 2 April 2014

Did everyone have a lovely Easter? I begged and pleaded my boys for one family photo. Can’t believe it really worked! Pax was pointing at a “big truck” that was across the street 🙂  I am a lucky lady with this crew.

It is so nice being back together with all of our family in AZ, especially for holidays like Easter. We got to spend time with both sides of our family that day and had a great time.

I did a scavenger hunt with the boys to find their Easter baskets. I love that my mom did that for my sister and I growing up. We had clues all over the house until we would finally find our baskets in some unusual spot in the house. The boys found their baskets in the washer and dryer this year, lol! Hopefully they’ll have good memories of our crazy scavenger hunts 🙂

The last couple weeks, I have been so intrigued with the Whole30 program. You can hashtag it on Instagram (#whole30) and hundreds of thousands of people are involved. I am terrified of even trying it……because you have to give up ALL of the processed sugary treats that I LOVE from time to time, ok maybe a little more than time to time. I’ve never ever given up sugar…or bread…eek!

With that said, I feel like I need to kick some bad habits and loose my love handles. Has anyone done this program before?! I need a buddy to do it with me!! The first step is reading this book, “It Starts with Food.”  I ordered it on Amazon this morning when I couldn’t sleep, lol! You can read a number of pages on Amazon before you order and it is really interesting. It’s a paleo diet lifestyle. Lots of plant based vegetables, meat, chicken, seafood and fruit which I would LOVE, but can I give up sugar for 30 days?! I’ll keep you posted 🙂

See what happens, I talk about eating clean then I see pictures like this on Pinterest. I just died. Thank you Kelly of Just a Taste, lol!

I’ve been on the hunt for a swimsuit cover and found one yesterday! I got the green and white striped.

Super cute stuff at J.Crew right now. Found this cute tee yesterday while shopping with my sister. Lots on sale too.

To die for new perfume by Dolce&Gabbana. Can’t get enough of it! Great Mother’s Day gift for yourself 🙂

Did anyone else get the Tory Burch Mother’s Day Giftcard in the mail last week?! She sent a mailer out with a $50 Giftcard! You know I wasn’t going to let that go to waste, lol! Picked up these cute Ricki Flip Flops in Poppy Red for only $40 with that Giftcard! Score!!

My next manicure color. LOVE! So summery.

Scandal is over until September!! What will I do with my Thursday nights! Can’t wait to see what happens next 🙂

Headed to Seaside, Florida next week with some of my favorite blogging friends!! Be sure to follow along on Instagram to see what we’re up to. Can’t wait to hang on the beach for the weekend!!

What am I going to do come July?! It’s only April and the boys have been swimming for 3 weeks! I love seeing them out in the pool, but I’m afraid it’s going to turn into bath water soon with this AZ sunshine 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend!

Such a cute swimsuit cover up!! And, I’ve been dying to go to Seaside! Seems like all the other Mississippians around me have been there already. Have a great time!

  2. Dorothy @ Crazy for Crust

We do a scavenger hunt too! And ours was in the washer. Such a good hiding spot, my daughter would never, ever go in there intentionally. 🙂

And Scandal. I just started it on Netflix and am OBSESSED!!!

    1. Jenny

Love the scavenger hunt! I miss my late night marathons of Scandal on Netflix!! Have fun 🙂

My cousin has done the Whole30 several times. More power to her (and you if you do it). She has to eat a lot of raw food. I just couldn’t do no sugar or carbs. 🙁 But she has had very good success with it.

I just picked up that Essie shade at Target on Monday. I can’t wait to use it!

Last night was not the same without Scandal. I am having major Scandal withdrawals.

    1. Jenny

Yah, I’m pretty sure I’d cave without sugar in the first day, lol! I gotta go get my nails done with that fun marshmallow color! xo

      1. Kristen

By the way, by looking at your Easter pic I think you look great and whatever you are doing now is working for you. 🙂 Maybe if you do the Whole30 it will inspire me to get my own booty in gear.

        1. Jenny

You are too nice Kristen. If I could eat less sugar I’d be soooo much better off, so would my abs, lol! Not sure I can entirely cut it out of my life for 30 days, but we’ll see if that book inspires me 🙂 xo

I am currently on my 4th Whole 30. For me doing one was life changing because of food allergies. I firmly believe everyone can benefit from it my dad who has a lot of different health issues has been doing very well since he started his eating habits. However, for some such as myself you discover you really cannot go back and enjoy the things you would like such as grains and cheese:( It requires a lot of prepping and cooking which would be easy for you, but no cookies a week or anything of the sort! You have to fully commit to reap the benefits. I loved the book learned a lot, if you have ailments that could be food related you can check through the book and confirm by doing a Whole 30. Good luck!

    1. Jenny

Thanks for commenting Wendy! Amazing you’ve done it 4 times! Congratulations!! I’ve got the book, I’m interested in reading up about the program 🙂

  5. Averie @ Averie Cooks

Have a wonderful weekend, Jenny! That pic of you and your family – you all look GREAT! And that new D&G perfume, now I want it! 🙂

  6. Kim

I did Paleo for 3 weeks. At first it’s no big deal – all good things to eat but by the end you don’t want any of it any more – I have a huge sweet tooth but I craved cheese! Good luck!

  7. Rebekah Smith

I have 3 boys too and I know how it is to get ONE GOOD family photo. Yours is adorable. I LOVE IT.

I have that Whole 30 book. I have not done it yet. I want to. maybe I should nowwwwwwwwwwww

    1. Jenny

I’m afraid that’s what will happen to me, lol! I just got the book, not sure if I’ll ever have the courage to take the plunge!!

  8. Sandy

Heather Sanders did the Whole 30 and blogged each day about. Her struggles and progress…a must read BEFORE you try it.

  9. Kelly Mikolich

Ahhhh life’s too short to give up good food. Everything in moderation! Cute Easter picture! You look beautiful and I loooooved your skirt and those adorable heels! So cute!

  10. Ashley M. | Our Full Table

Two of my family members did the whole 30 a few months ago and loved it!

  11. naomi

There is no way I could quit sugar and bread. If you do, blog about it. I want to hear how it goes. And love that family photo!

  12. Heather Christo

I basically am living the whole 30 right now (because if the family food allergies.) It changes you in lots of good ways- but I warn you- it will be very hard to go back to the sugar!

Love that swim coverup! and I wish I had someone to go to the other woman with. That will be a solid NO from my hubby!

    1. Jenny

I am so nervous to start it Heather! I guess I’m afraid I’ll just go back to my normal ways. I’m so curious on how it will change me!!!

  13. Aimee @ Simple Bites

What a gorgeous family photo!! I have to say, you don’t look like you have anything that even resembles a love handle. That said, I like the direction you are headed. I haven’t tried the Whole 30, but I eat very little sugar and we eat semi-paleo. It’s woking for us. 😉

  14. Emily Babb

I love Whole 30 and have done it twice, the hardest part for me though was the coffee situation and when people wanted to eat out.

  15. Kelly Senyei | Just a Taste

Thanks so much for featuring my Homemade Churros with Chocolate Sauce, Jenny! And I am right there with you on the inability to sleep situation … hence why I’m typing this at 5:45 in the morning 🙂 Have a great weekend!

    1. Jenny

Glad I’m not the only one, lol…..those churros are killing me. Sooo good! Happy Friday to you! xoxo

  16. Maria

I will do that challenge with you…after I have the baby! But can we have one cookie day a week? 🙂 I need to go shopping with you! You always find the best stuff! I can’t wait until Seaside! xo

    1. Jenny

Haha! Yes let’s do it Maria. I think it’s only fair that food bloggers get to have one cookie day a week. We’ll alter the rules just a smidge 🙂 Next week, yippee!!!

  17. Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine

I’ve heard a lot about the Whole 30 and it sounds like a great way to kick some bad habits! I just really don’t know if I can make it a whole 30 days without chocolate. or sugar. or cupcakes. or a bite of a donut here and there. Oh shoot. I definitely want to order the book!

    1. Jenny

I know Haley, that’s my thoughts too! Especially since I’m around it all week! It would take some major will power that’s for sure!!
