My mom and I had so much fun in her kitchen making these these giant cookies cookies. Not only do they look to die for but I must say they were one of the tastiest darn cookies I’ve ever eaten!

What Type Of Oreo Cookie Should I Use?

You need to use at least the Double Stuf Oreo Cookies.  My favorite is actually the Mega Stuf Oreos.

How To Make the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Cream your butter and sugars 🙂 It was fun using an actual electric mixer at my moms. She’s an old fashion gal 🙂  Please note, I usually make this recipe in my Stand Mixer or even with just a big mixing bowl and large spoon.  You do not have to use an electric mixer if you don’t have one.  Once butter and sugars are creamed, add your eggs.

Add the dry ingredients.

Add your chocolate chips! I’ve found that using the mini chips works best.

How To Stuff Your Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies

First things first, take a cookie scoopful of dough and place it on top of your Oreo Cookie

Now, do the same thing to the bottom side.

They’ll look a little something like this when they are done. Let cool then EAT! I used the Double Stuff variety and it was a great idea, LOVE the extra white cream center that melts ever so slightly 🙂

Tips For Making The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

  1. Don’t alter the recipe, use all ingredients as listed.
  2. For a more firm cookie, refrigerate your cookie dough for 24 hours before baking.
  3. Always use butter, not margarine.  ALWAYS.  I prefer salted butter for my chocolate chip cookies.  Try it!
  4. Do not ever grease your cookie sheets.  Will make cookies spread and change texture.
  5. Don’t skip creaming your butter and sugars for a good 2 minutes.  Helps create a fluffy, chewy cookie.
  6. Try sprinkling dough with just a touch of salt for a perfect sweet and salty combination.
  7. Don’t overtake your cookies.  Cookies will continue to cook on hot cookie sheet when removed from oven.
  8. Let cookies cool completely before storing in containers. This will keep their crispness
  9. Store leftover cookies in an airtight container for 3 days room temperature.

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks softened butter
  • 3/4 Cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 Cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla
  • 3 1/2 Cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 10 oz bag chocolate chips
  • 1 bag Oreo Cookies I used the double stuff 🙂

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a stand or electric mixer cream butter and sugars until well combined. Add in eggs and vanilla until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl mix the flour, salt and baking soda. Slowly add to wet ingredients along with chocolate chips until just combined. Using a cookie scoop take one scoop of cookie dough and place on top of an Oreo Cookie. Take another scoop of dough and place on bottom of Oreo Cookie. Seal edges together by pressing and cupping in hand until Oreo Cookie is enclosed with dough. Place onto a parchment or silpat lined baking sheet and bake cookies 9-13 minutes or until cookies are baked to your liking. Let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to cooling rack. Serve with a tall glass of milk, enjoy!

  12. These are sooo yummy! I substituted gluten free all purpose flour and gluten free oreo cookies. They spread out a lot, but I think that happened maybe because the eggs were cold? Not sure. Still delicious. Needed longer to bake too, more like 15-16 minutes.

    I’m going to be making these for my company Christmas Cookie Exchange. My only change is that I’m going to be using the mini oreos instead of the full sized ones because I 1) have to bake 20 dozen or so for them and 2) my coworkers like “bite sized” food.

    Just tried making these and unfortunately it was a fail… 🙁 Not sure why. Followed the recipe exactly only thing was that we used whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose. The dough was really crumbly and dry!! Any suggestions. Could it have been the whole wheat flour!? Sad day!!

    I just made these, they are in the oven baking as I’m writing this, and wow they are huge. Like gigantic huge. I followed the recipe exactly as it it, I bought a cookie scoop thing and did everything step by step. And they came out maybe 3 times the size of your pictures haha. Idk if that’s a good thing or bad? They are ginormous! I wish I could upload a picture to show you

    Ok. Maybe I did something wrong but the dough was to sticky to wrap it around the cookie. It just kept getting all over my fingers. So I plopped the cookie dough on the baking sheet then placed an oreo on top of that followed by another layer of oookie dough and tried to smear it around the oreo. What could I have possibly have done wrong? I am doing a trial run before I make them for a work bake sale which donates the profits to the United Way.

    1. Hi Tracy, the dough shouldn’t be that sticky. Did you use my exact cookie dough recipe? That is the key. When you go to stuff the oreos and cookie dough, use a big cookie scoop to place dough on both sides of the Oreo then press and form dough around Oreo. Hope this helps!!

    Your Ingredient list states 10 oz. choc chips, it doesn’t specify whether they are semi sweet or milk choc. I ended up using the semi sweet chips because that is what I had on hand. After looking at your recipe again, and noticed in one of your photos the bag of chips had a purple label on it, and that so happens to be the color for the milk choc chips by Hersey. It would have been better if you had listed the type of choc chips used in your recipe. I sure that my batch using the semi sweet will turn out just as well. Next time I will use the milk choc chips, Also the bags of milk choc chips by Hersey are 11.5 ounces not 10 ounces.

    This is the fourth superbowl I’ve made these cookies for– they are ALWAYS a hit– however, I have never been able to keep my cookies from spreading. BUT, this year I’ve FINALLY figured it out! In addition to refrigerating the cookie dough covered oreos before baking (which I find reduces spreading by ~50%), baking the cookies as close to the heating element as possible seems to do the trick!

Very cute and very tasty (though not what I expected) and they still were quite a hit, even up against a turducken (you have to have a stuffed desert to go with a thrice stuffed bird).     I made these but, they didn’t look like yours. How did you manage to keep the cookie part from flattening out around the oreo. I used the scoops of dough for the first batch and less for the second. the first ones looked like monster cookies and the second ones not as bad. they were yummy tasting but they didn’t keep their shape at all.

    I made these cookies for Thanksgiving and they were a HUGE hit!! I mixed the dough and shaped the cookies the day before I needed them, so that I could just bake them and head out the door the following morning. I set the cookies out for about and hour before baking them. I baked mine between 16-18 minutes, although I’d probably do about 1-2 mins. less next time. I used a melon baller (holds about 1 tablespoon) and regular sized Oreos (So, 2 tbsps. of dough for each Oreo). It was just the right amount of dough to cover each Oreo. They baked beautifully and didn’t spread out at all (a common problem others have had). As long as the dough is chilled the cookies won’t spread. These cookies were huge!! Everyone who ate them said “oh, there’s another cookie in there”. Delightful!!

    I made these about twenty minutes ago. The dough was nothing like pictured, it kept sloughing off the cookie even after adding almost twice the flour to thicken the dough. I’m going to try chilling the dough and maybe it will help next time.

      Chilling the dough should help…but certainly don’t add twice the amount of flour. Baking is a science. Use a little less dough around each Oreo.

    I just found this website a few days ago, and I’m already loving it! This recipe is great for a potluck or for the cookie monster in your life (my dad)! Oreos or my dad favorite store-bought cookies (When it comes to homemade, it has to be his moms homemade cookies), and when we went to Sea-Fair, we parked next to a boat who made these cookies, and ever since my dads been wanting some! So, I just made this recipe yesterday, and let me that they look amazing and taste even better! To my surprise, they look like yours too!     Could you please tell me what size cookie scoop you used? I made some of these but they expanded so much. I ended up with a large flat cookie with a raw mound of dough atop my Oreo. They never really cooked on top even after 18 minutes in the oven. I was hoping for the rounded cookie like pictured. Please help I have couple different sizes just curious if it is a size 30 or 40. Those 2 seem ideal.

    Hi, I have a question! what is the consistency of the oreo inside the cookie after its done baking? Im not a fan of oreos at all but i thought they tasted divine when i tried them deep fried lollll. That is because the frying made the oreo molten inside the batter. Does the same happen to these cookies? Does the oreo stay its normal crisp or does it turn molten?

    I don’t know why, but when I tried this, the batter went horribly wrong. It didn’t look anything like her pictures.

    It was too runny, we attempted to put it in the fridge but that didn’t work either. We decided to go ahead and try to bake them, but they separated into this gooey, butter, brown sugar, mess. It didn’t even try to be a cookie.

    I honestly don’t know what went wrong because I know we measured everything accordingly. I have never had a cookie do that to me before.

    Okay, I just made these and here is how my cookies came out. First of all, Picky Palate’s chocolate chip cookie recipe is the best of the best. I use that recipe all the time, so when I saw this, I knew it was going to have to be good! My first batch came out with the cookie huge and the oreo part looking kind of plumped up in the center. I was kind of bummed that the cookie reached out far beyond the oreo. The second batch, I didn’t use as much dough around the oreo, but still enough to cover the cookie completely, those turned out perfect and just like Picky Palate’s pictures. I only got 19 cookies out of it, but I figure that I used too much dough on that first batch. Also, I cooked my cookies for a total of 13 minutes and 30 seconds and they were perfect.

    They tasted absolutely incredible! Never in a million years would I have thought of putting a cookie inside another cookie! Absolutely genius Jenny!

    my cliff notes for the laziest of all college students:

    1) go to any store near you that sells oreos and frozen chocolate chip cookie dough

    2) find a chair that is kinda high up(barstool works best)

    3) take a good amount of dough and flatten it, then place oreo on top

    4) take about the same amount of dough you used to begin this and place on the bottom of the oreo

    5) seal the edges so you cannot see the oreo anymore

    6) repeat steps 3, 4, and 5 until you run out of space on the cookie sheet, or you run out of oreos/ cookie dough

    7) bake the cookie things according to the cookie dough instructions, maybe a little longer, depending on how thick they are

    (must be a golden brown color for best taste)

    My friends and I made these last night. Being that we’re a bunch of lazy college students, we used Toll House pre-made cookie dough. We just took two squares of dough, covered a double stuff Oreo with them, and baked at 350 for 15-20 minutes. We made about 30 cookies and they were gone within an hour.     I’m just wondering…I made these the other day for my bf for V-Day. They were absolutely wonderful when they came out of the oven, but when they cooled they got very hard. Like, rock hard. Is there any way to get the chocolate chip cookie to maybe stay a little chewier instead of rock-y?       I’ve made these dozens of times and haven’t had them turn hard after cooling. All I can think of is maybe you are over baking them? Try taking them out a few minutes early. Are you substituting any ingredients? That makes all the difference, make sure you are using my exact recipe. Hope this helps!!

      Sounds like you need to press the dough down after you stuff the Oreos inside. That way they aren’t perfectly round. That’s what I do and they turn out just like my photo 🙂 Let me know if this works for you!!

    I just did a half-batch as a test run for an event I’m going to on Wednesday. The dough was a bit on the dry side, so I added another tablespoon of butter and a tablespoon more of beaten egg. I had a few open bags of chocolate chips that I wanted to use up, so I used a mix of milk chocolate chips and mini semi-sweets.

        Well, I don’t want to sound technical, but the dough spreads a lot if you use eggs and butter right out of the fridge. They must be at room temp., or else the batter will be un-even and they’ll spread in the oven. If I forget to let my butter go to room temp., I put it in the microwave on defrost mode for 1 minute at a time till soft, if I forget to let the eggs warm up outside the fridge, I take them out right as I start to make the dough, and when it’s time to put them in, I first warm them up in my hands as much as I can!     OH MY WORD. I made these last night and they are DELICIOUS! I didn’t have any chocolate chips open, so I used some M & M’s I had leftover from the Butterscotch Cookie recipe from last week.     Ha, I’ll have to add this to the list of desserts to try after I add sweets back into my diet. I’ll have to be careful to use moderation and not bake everything at once so I don’t lose any progress I make!

      I helped a group of scouts cook up some batter covered bacon-wrapped deep fried oreos. The boys took 1st place for dessert in the competition. (Judged by a husband/wife team who were both over 65 yrs old.) TASTY!

    I have two questions…were they so big that you couldn’t finish a cookie? How do you feel about making them smaller with mini oreos?

    Also- do you think these would freeze well after baking? I love to bake cookies and freeze them so I always have a fresh cookie when I want one! Thanks so much!

      I used the bite sized oreos and I got a big cookie with a small lump in the middle. They spread out soo much that it looks ridiculous. Tastes good, but looks funny.

  159. I’m at the point, after making the brownie covered oreos, that I will cover an oreo w/ any sort of batter or dough now and be happy. Love me some anything-covered-oreos!!! haha
