These Disneyland Corn Dogs will take you right back to Main Street U.S.A. Just like the ones you love so much at Disneyland, they taste like the real thing!
Heat oil in a large saucepan filled 3/4 full over medium-high heat until oil reaches 350-375 degrees F.
Place the corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a large bowl, stir to combine. Stir in egg, milk and melted shortening. Stirring to combine. Pour batter into a tall slender glass, makes for easier dipping of hot dogs.
Place hot dogs through skewers and dip generously into batter, swirling then carefully place into hot oil spinning slowly the entire time in the oil. This helps create an even golden brown color and even cooking. When a deep golden brown color, transfer to a paper towel lined plate to drain some of the oil. Each corn dog took about 2-3 minutes in the frying oil. Serve hot with your favorite condiments.
Notes
Recipe is via Grub Americana website that claims this is a recipe from Disneyland. While I haven't confirmed that information, it is fantastic and tasted very close to the real deal. It's a great option for making at home. We give it a 10/10.
