  • 12 tablespoons salted butter softened
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup Molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1 stick salted butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. and line a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Place butter, brown sugar and molasses into a large mixing bowl or stand mixer. Beat until well combined. Beat in egg and almond extract. Slowly stir in flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda and salt. Once dough forms, stir in chocolate chips until combined. Transfer dough to prepared baking dish and press evenly. Bake for 16-18 minutes, until baked. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
  • To prepare frosting, place cream cheese and butter into a large bowl or stand mixer. Beat until creamy and smooth then slowly add powdered sugar until thick and creamy. When bars are cooled, frost over bars and cut into squares to serve. Serve room temperature or chilled. Sprinkle tops of bars with cinnamon if desired.
