How To Make Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods

  1. Heat caramels in microwave or stovetop, following package directions. When melted, let cool for 5-10 minutes, stirring often. You want caramel to thicken a bit before dipping pretzel rods. This will help more caramel to stay on rod. When caramel is thickened, carefully spoon caramel over 3/4 of the pretzel rod, keeping as much caramel on the pretzel as possible. Press crushed Oreo Cookies into the warm caramel over the pretzel rod. I like to place the cookies into my hand and press the pretzel rod in my hand with cookies to easily apply cookies to all areas of pretzel rod.
  2. Let caramel and cookies set up for at least 15 minutes on a large piece of parchment paper that’s been lightly sprayed with cooking spray.
  3. Melt vanilla melting wafers in microwave according to package directions then spoon/drizzle chocolate over caramel and cookies pretzel rods. Set back onto parchment to set up. Place candy eyeball on top of each pretzel rod while chocolate is still soft. Serve room temperature.

Once your caramel is melted, let it cool for a good 5-8 minutes stirring often. This thickens it up so that it doesn’t all run off of the pretzel rod.

Press Oreo Cookie crumbs into warm caramel, I put the cookie crumbs in my palm and press the pretzel rod into my hand so I can arrange the crumbs to each area. I found this to be easier than pressing on a plate. Let the caramel and cookies set up for at least 15 minutes.

Melt your white chocolate candy melts until creamy and smooth. I prefer the bag of Ghirardelli melts. I’ve used them for years and have found they work best for dipping.

Hold the pretzel rods over the white chocolate and drizzle chocolate over the caramel/cookie areas. Let set up on parchment paper and add a candy eye ball if desired for a Halloween look.
