You are in for such a treat with my Honey Whole Wheat Pizza Dough recipe! I have been making pizza for a couple weeks now and cannot stop! I used to stock up on store-bought dough from Trader Joe’s like it was going out of style. I still love it, but there’s something about making your own pizza dough in your kitchen that can’t be beat!
My recipe could not be more simple to prepare. No waiting for the dough to rise, it’s literally done in about 15 minutes.
So excited for you to make your own dough for your family, not only does it taste incredible, your house smells like a dream too!
Here’s most of your line up of ingredients. Simple pantry ingredients!
I love the sweetness the honey gives the dough. Mmm! We like to use local raw honey.
Start with adding warm water to your stand mixer along with the yeast and sugar.
Let the yeast and sugar sit for 10 minutes then add your flour, olive oil, honey and salt.
With the dough hook attached, let mix for 3 minutes, until well combined.
Take dough out of the bowl.
Transfer dough to a floured counter top.
Knead a few times folding over and pushing.
Form dough into a round ball. You can bake it at this point, cut it into fourths for individual pizzas, or refrigerate in a Ziploc bag.
My boys love making their own pizzas, so I usually cut this dough into fourths and store in the refrigerator or freezer. I put one of these baggies into the fridge and baked it after 1 week and it worked great.
They make great gifts for friends and neighbors too! For more Palate Recipes click HERE.
Note: You can cut the dough into fourths and make four individual size pizzas as well. Bake for 12-16 minutes for the smaller pizzas. Dough can be frozen for 4 weeks as well.

What gorgeous dough! I love the opening shot of you, too 🙂 Gosh, you are so polished & put together, Jenny! Whoa. I am lucky if my hair is even fairly recently washed, let alone heels and a skirt 🙂
I love making my own pizza dough too. So much better & cheaper than storebought! Pinned
Averie! I am cracking up because it sure looks like I was put together, but I had been to the gym that morning, no make-up on and dirty hair. Funny how a dress and heels can make the picute “look.” Lol! xo
Such a delicious dish yummy and this make me hungry so much love you jenny for share it
You had me at ready in 15 minutes!! I can’t wait to try your recipe. I love that it has honey in it and can be refrigerated for later use. My family will love this 🙂

Ohmygosh I am IN LOVE with that first photo! Definitely agree with Averie,as I am sitting here in my pjs and not washed hair!
I am also diggin the green KitchenAid…I wish mine was a fun color!
This pizza dough looks dynamite, and I love that it is whole wheat! Homemade pizza dough is always the way to go!
Thank you Taylor. I had to laugh at yours and Averie’s comments because I had no make-up on, dirty hair and had not had a shower for the day, lol! Looks can be be deceiving 🙂 Thanks for your comment 🙂
This dough sounds lovely! Great recipe 🙂
Those heels! That skirt! This dough!!! Jenny, you got it going on girl!
I’ve never had much luck with making pizza dough, but yours sounds so easy and I love that it’s ready in 10 minutes. Maybe I’ll give it another go because I really want to make my own dough. Love your green Kitchen Aid. Mine is the plain white.
You’ve got to try it Syliva! It really is so easy! Hope you enjoy 🙂
We are a huge pizza family! I can’t wait to try this crust recipe…love the honey!!
Oh my goodness, I adore the pic of you holding the dough in your cute skirt and red shoes!! Love this dough too, and the idea of giving it out as a gift. I never would have thought of that!
Thank you Ali! Hope to see you this year! xo

Such a cute dough photo, Jenny! Love those bright red heels!
Thanks Julie! xo
I am a Trader Joe’s pizza dough girl myself but now I think I’ll be making it at home! Love, love that first shot of you!!
I know, I always have a Trader Joe’s Pizza dough in my freezer 🙂 I am a new lover of this recipe, it is soooo easy!
I think I might come over for some pizza, and a raid of your closet now that we’re neighbors!!
Do you need to bake the dough a bit before baking the ingredients?
Hi Andrea, no you don’t need to bake the dough before adding the ingredients 🙂
Love homemade pizza dough and this looks really simple!
What a fun set up! I’m going to start making pizza dough in heels and full makeup.
Love a good dough recipe and I like packaging that you did.
I don’t have a dough hook, do you have any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi Janice, I’m sorry I haven’t tried it without a dough hook. However, if you try another way, try it by hand. 🙂
Looks great. Can’t wait to try this recipe. Question-can you use butter instead of olive oil?
I have not tried it and I love that idea. I think it would work but I just haven’t tested it. 🙂
No more delivery for me!!! Thanks –
Loved the picture with your shoes in the background. This looks like a very good recipe and look forward to making it. Thank you so much. Truly enjoy your blog.
Thank you Karen!!
There’s nothing like homemade pizza and this dough sounds perfect!
This looks delicious and I can’t wait to try it!! I’ve had great luck with Ina Garten’s pizza dough recipe too, love T.J.’s, but it puts their dough to shame!
[…] I love making homemade pizza. First, you need to start with a delicious, but easy homemade dough. I hate having to wait so many hours for the dough to be ready. Those recipes don’t really fit my schedule. So here’s a quick, healthy and tasty whole wheat pizza dough from Picky Palate. […]
Omg that photo! Your shoes! That gorgeous outfit!! And this pizza dough!! I want it all! Xoxo
Your skirt and shoes are the cutest! Love that first photo!!
And I mean the pizza dough?!? Yum!! Sound and looks so good! Homemade pizza is the best!
First, like the others, I loved the photo! THe heels and skirt definitely upscaled the shot! Never give your secrets away … dirty hair DONT CARE 🙂
Second, love the recipe, and I will try it. I’ve failed, miserably, at making pizza dough. I’ve used ALL of the “best” recipes, and I just suck at it. However, no one really laid out the steps like you do. That may be the key. I’ll try it in a few weeks when the family is over and see.
I’m curious about storage. You mentioned that it lasts in the fridge a week. Is that the average? What about the freezer?
Cheers
Matt

I only tested the dough for a week in the fridge but it may last longer. You should probably be good for a month in the freezer. I put one in the freezer, took it out a couple of days later, baked it about 4 days later and it was fine. Good luck!
I Love thick, fluffy pizza dough! This is a must try and the little bags of dough are too cute!
First, what a fun photo!! LOVE this dough recipe!!!

This looks like the easiest, tastiest Bread I have seen!! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much Jocelyn!!

Hi! I have a question, I’ve only used regular whole wheat flour for baking and cooking. Do you find white whole wheat flour better? Is it a different consistency or is it just white as opposed to brown? Thanks!
Hi Jackie, I provided a link about white whole wheat in a previous post that will give you the info you are looking for: click this link then scroll down to above the recipe and click the white whole wheat link: https://picky-palate.com/2014/01/15/healthier-whole-wheat-chocolate-chip-cookies/
Would using best flour change this recipe? And if I wanted to make twice as much should I double all the ingredients or make two separate batches.
There’s nothing quite like fresh pizza dough just made at home. So much better than the store bought versions. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
This was so easy to make. My husband was happy he didn’t have to wait 2 hours for the dough to rise. And I was happy it was whole wheat. Definitely a great pizza dough recipe.

How long will it last in the freezer is there any special instructions for using after it has been Frozen.
Has anyone else tried to make the dough yet? I tried it. Not sure what I did wrong but its too crumbly. Not sure how to fix it…Will have to try again later. Maybe too much flour in mine?
Hey! When you bake your pizza do you use a pizza stone, just a regular baking sheet?? Just wondering which works the best.
Hi Vera, I don’t use a stone, just a metal pizza pan 🙂 A baking sheet works great too.
I made this tonight (and I did it on a baking sheet that I sprayed with olive oil spray first) and it came out fabulous! My 11 month old devoured it. She kept eating and eating; I was worried she’d end up with a tummyache from overfilling her little belly! This was incredibly easy and the first time I used my dough hook since I got my stand mixer 4 years ago!
big thumbs up 🙂
So glad to hear it Megan! Thanks for the feedback 🙂
Darn went to the store knowing I needed whole wheat for this recipe, bought whole wheat not WHITE whole wheat. Have you tried this recipe with whole wheat? I have the Breville pizza maker, and love it, can’t wait to try this dough with it!
