What You’ll Need
Here are the ingredients you’ll need for this easy apple pie recipe. See the recipe card located at the bottom of the post for full details and instructions.
- butter– I generally use salted butter in my recipes, unsalted works just fine too.
- sliced apples– Green Granny Smith Apples are what I prefer for the recipe.
- ground cinnamon– Cinnamon pairs so nicely with the apples, the perfect spice.
- light brown sugar– Make sure your brown sugar is fresh and soft. It should be packed in the cup.
- Pillsbury biscuit dough– Find refrigerated biscuit dough in the dairy section of the grocery store.
- egg yolks– Use a bowl to pour whites of the egg and just keep the yolks.
- salted caramel sauce– Trader Joe’s has a good salted caramel sauce. Any of your favorite will be fine.
- powdered sugar– Also called confectioners sugar, this sugar helps make the icing.
- heavy cream– Use heavy cream to make the icing with the powdered sugar.
Best Apples For Apple Pie
- Granny Smith– Granny Smith apples are one of the most versatile apples you can buy. Their sweet-tart flavor and crisp texture make them an apple that is as wonderful for cooking and baking as it is to eat out of hand.
- Honeycrisp– Honeycrisp apples have a sweet, subtly tangy flavor well suited for fresh and cooked preparations. Raw Honeycrisp apples are popularly consumed straight, out of hand, mainly served chilled, and are valued for their snappy, juicy flesh.
- Golden Delicious– Golden Delicious Apples are popular, medium-sized apples with a crisp firm texture and juicy sweet flavor. These tasty apples have a creamy-white interior and a thin yellow peel with light speckles.
