Just watched the Biggest Loser Finale, what a show! It was such a great season. I won’t blow it for those of you who tivo’d it, but I will tell you it went WAY over their time limit, at least 1/2 hour. American Idol was awesome too, can’t wait to see the results!
I have to admit that I am a complete sucker every time I step foot into a William Sonoma and/or Sur La Table. I mean come on, it’s every cooks toy store. So, a few weeks ago I see this adorable cake pan on the shelf and next thing I knew I was handing over my debit card and taking my new pan home. Let me just say I love it to pieces. It makes an adorable cake and I can’t wait to make an ice cream center next time!
It was a cloudy day here in CA when I was desperately trying to get at least one good shot of the cake, so bare with the very mediocre pics below. Trust me, this very simple chocolate cake got reviews such as….”This is the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had!” I didn’t have the heart to admit it was semi-homemade! That’s the beauty of it. Enjoy!!
Chocolate Lovin’ Cream Centered Cake
1 box devils food cake mix
4 eggs
6 oz vanilla lowfat yogurt
1 pkg chocolate instant pudding mix (small box)
1/2 Cup oil
1/2 Cup water
1 bag Reeses Peanut Butter Cup baking pieces (or use cut up candy pieces or even choc chips)
Cream Cheese Frosting
8 oz softened cream cheese
1 stick softened butter
2 Cups powdered sugar
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place cake mix, eggs, yogurt, pudding mix, oil and water into stand mixer. Mix on medium-low for 2 minutes or until well combined. Slowly add in baking chips. Pour into greased Oreo cake pans (or 2 9 inch pans). Bake for 25-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean from center. Let cool completely, then invert onto wax paper.
2. To prepare frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Slowly add in powdered sugar until smooth. Spread frosting over bottom cake then place second cake on top. Chill until serving.
We couldn’t be in AZ with our family for Mother’s Day, but I did get to spend the day with my favorite 3 boys! My sweet hubby made breakfast and even slaved over a beautiful penne pasta dinner after church. The boys made me homemade cards that made me cry, they were so sweet. My evening request was to go watch the sunset at Corona Del Mar beach. Here are some of the pics I snapped of our evening.
See you all soon with something mmm good! Have a great rest of your week!

cute pics and impressive big oreo cake, my fav American cookies, lol
I saw the Biggest Loser too – such a long episode! LOVE this cake!!! Your idea of adding ice cream to the center is great – vanilla or even cookies ‘n cream ice cream would be so delicious. Thanks for sharing pics of your beautiful family!
We stopped at William Sonoma on our way home from a weekend trip on Sunday and I stood in front of that cake pan and its display for at least 5 minutes. Too darn cute!!
Alas. I came home without it.
I want that pan, too! Such a fun cake!
Looks like you had a fantastic Mother’s Day with all your guys!

We don’t have a William-Sonoma around here so I can only order things. I tried to get the choc.brownie pan you had but they are out!!!I looked at this one and the big cupcake. I have another pan coming today from Chef Catalog.
I’m addicted to pans too. Your cake looks delicious and the pictures are so precious.

Oh my gosh, those cake pans are SO cute! I love Sur la Table.
Such a cute pan!! I have a totally off topic question for you, your skin is so clear, what face wash and makeup do you use?
Thanks everyone.
Risa,
I don’t even have a face wash. Just the good ol’ shower! I love my Mac Bronzer though. It does wonders. Thanks for the compliment!
Your recipes are going to make by bum so big that I will have to be on the Biggest Loser. Love the cake pan. Thank goodness I only have Williams-Sonoma online. I would be broke if I could show up to the store.

My hubby and little boy gobbled it up. Thanks for all the great healthy recipes!

Ohhh you bought the very pans I held in my hands the entire dreamy time I was in Williams-Sonoma on our California vacation (just got home yesterday…want to go back NOW!). I almost bought the set but alas, put it back.

OMG I just love that pan, what a pretty cake. I am a sucker for pans as well so I understand.
So I’m going to be making this cake for my bro-in-law’s birthday this weekend and he wants it to be super chocolately. I was thinking of modifying the cream filling to be a CHOCOLATE cream filling. Any ideas on how to do that?
I love your blog and have been trying out recipe after recipe of yours. Haven’t found one yet that isn’t delicious… THANKS for your help!
Cute cake! Love the pics of the family!
That pan is adorable. And I am like you, I LOVE those stores. I actually get scared going in them because I get carried away. I did go to a restaurant supply store to get my fix a few weeks ago
I have missed ya. Sorry I have been MIA. The new job has me busy!
Anonymous,
Yes you can use plain yogurt as a substitute. Good Luck!
Your food site is one of the most decadent and painfully tempting blogs I’ve run into. HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY STAY THIN AND HEALTHY WITH ALL THE AWESOME FOOD YOU COOK?! I am so going to have to make the oreo cake and oreo rice crispy treats. There goes my diet…
I went bonkers when I saw this cake pan at WS. I have an addiction to cake pans since I love to play with flour. I did not buy it since I thought my kids might buy it for Mom’s day as I tossed out a few hundred hints. Guess my kids were not listening as kids tune out parents (selective hearing) so there was no pan for Mom’s day. Today we are going to the Mall and I am buying this Oreo baby for sure. Thanks for sharing the recipe and your little ones are cute. I will visit your blog again.
