What You’ll Need

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make homemade banana bread at home. See the recipe card located at the bottom of the post for full details and instructions.

  • salted butter softened– For my baking and cooking recipes, I generally use salted butter, but unsalted is fine too.
  • granulated sugar– This fine sugar adds to the sweetness of the bread.
  • brown sugar packed, light or brown is fine- You’ll have the option of light or dark brown sugar when shopping for brown sugar. Either works for the recipe, but I use light.
  • ripe bananas mashed– When your bananas are black spotted, they are perfect for using for banana bread.
  • large eggs– I use large eggs for all of my cooking and baking for consistency.
  • pure vanilla extract– For best tasting results use pure vanilla.
  • all-purpose flour– All-purpose flour is the main dry ingredient for the banana bread.
  • baking soda– The baking soda helps the banana bread rise.
  • kosher salt- Kosher salt is a course salt. I prefer using it for all of my cooking and baking.
  • chocolate chips– Chocolate chips are added to the banana bread batter.
  • mini M & M’s– Find the mini M&M’s in the baking section of the grocery store or the candy isle.

The pictures and the recipe don’t seem to match. Are the M&M’s mixed in or sprinkled on top, as in the picture? Also, the recipe says nothing about the chocolate chips that are pictured in the bowl with the M&M’s. I’m confused!

Just edited the text. The M&M’s are sprinkled in the batter and on top before baking. Chocolate chips added to batter with the M&M’s. Thanks 🙂
