Disneyland Monte Cristo Sandwich
If you’ve been to Disneyland, you know exactly what I’m talking about here. Just about every visit, I like to visit Cafe Orleans located in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square to enjoy the famous Monte Cristo Sandwich with a side of their delicious Pomme Frites too. I was so excited to find an Original recipe from the D23 website.

What You’ll Need
Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make monte cristo sandwiches at home. See the recipe card located at the bottom of the post for full details and instructions.
- White Bread– I like to use a soft white bread such as Sara Lee for the recipe.
- Swiss Cheese– Thinly sliced Swiss Cheese works best here.
- Turkey Slices– Look for a good quality sliced turkey breast for best tasting results.
- Ham Slices– Smoked ham thinly sliced works great here.
- Flour– You’ll use all-purpose flour to make the batter that the sandwich to get dipped in before frying.
- Baking Powder– Baking powder is added to the batter before frying.
- Kosher Salt– Kosher salt is a course salt commonly used in cooking and baking.
- Egg– For consistency, I use large eggs in my cooking and baking.
- Water– Water is added to the batter ingredients.
- Powdered Sugar– Also referred to as confectioners sugar. This gets dusted on top of the warm sandwiches.
- Blackberry Jam– Blackberry jam is used as a dip for the sandwiches.
How To Make A Monte Cristo
Heat Oil. Fill a medium size saucepan just over 1/4 full with Canola or Vegetable oil. Heat to 375 degrees F.
Prepare The Batter. To prepare the batter, place flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl, stirring to combine. Stir in water and egg, mixing until well combined.
Arrange Sandwiches. To prepare sandwiches, layer bottom slices of bread with a slice of Swiss cheese, 2 slices of turkey, 2 slices of ham and another slice of Swiss Cheese. Close with top slice of bread then cut into fourths. Place a toothpick in each sandwich slice.
Monte Cristo
Spoon Batter On Sandwiches. Coat all sides of sandwich triangle with batter. I used a spoon to help coat both sides, instead of dipping.
Cook Sandwiches In Oil. Carefully place one sandwich at a time in hot oil. Cook each side until golden brown. Remove and place onto a paper towel lined plate to drain oil. Continue until all have been coated.
Sprinkle With Powdered Sugar. Dust warm sandwiches with powdered sugar.
Cut Sandwiches In Half. Cut in half and place onto a serving plate with grapes, and a few strawberries.
Serve With Fruit And Jam. Arrange the sliced sandwiches onto a serving plate and serve with grapes, strawberries and blackberry jam. I found prepared blackberry jam at Sprouts.
How To Serve
Serve sandwiches at any party, perfect for Disneyland themed!
Leftovers
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in oven as needed. Note. Sandwiches are best enjoyed the day of making.

Hey, Thankyou for sharing this recipe. I can add this in my menu as Disney land themed recipe.
I have not tried Monte Cristo Sandwich ^^ but this looks so good! Definitely try this recipe very soon! Thank you!
Delicious!
I made 3 sandwiches from this recipe and they really tasted like the ones I’ve had at Disneyland 😃
Made these today. They where so good!!! We had home made blueberry jam and we did ours in the deep fryer.
This looks so good~ I want to try this recipe right this weekend! Thank you for sharing!
Yum! Can’t wait to make it.
Can these be cooked in an air fryer? They sound really good but deep frying is a little over the top for me.
Thank you for your help.
Hi Kay, I don’t think you’ll get the same results with an air fryer. The batter is pretty runny which would cause some issues putting into an air fryer in my opinion 🙂
Delicious! I wasn’t sure about the jam, but it’s much better with it.
I teach a cooking lesson to a teenager. We made these and they were delicious. Unfortunately for me, she took all of them home. We did try one first though!
I’m working on that myself. Seems best to just put batter on top and sides first, because any on the bottom just sticks and comes off. After it is mostly done turn over and spoon a little batter on the dry side and let it fry a couple more minutes. Came out prett close to deep fryer look.
