Tips For Making The Best Cookies

  1. Don’t alter the recipe, use all ingredients as listed.
  2. For a more firm cookie, refrigerate your cookie dough for 24 hours before baking.
  3. Always use butter, not margarine.  ALWAYS.  I prefer salted butter for my chocolate chip cookies.  Try it!
  4. Do not ever grease your cookie sheets.  Will make cookies spread and change texture.
  5. Don’t skip creaming your butter and sugars for a good 2 minutes.  Helps create a fluffy, chewy cookie.
  6. Try sprinkling dough with just a touch of salt for a perfect sweet and salty combination.
  7. Don’t overtake your cookies.  Cookies will continue to cook on hot cookie sheet when removed from oven.
  8. Let cookies cool completely before storing in containers. This will keep their crispness
  9. Store leftover cookies in an airtight container for 3 days room temperature.

Does it make a difference if you use kosher salt or regular salt? I‘I’ve seen kosher salt in the store but don’t really know the difference for baking.

    1. Jenny

Hi Lea, Kosher salt is larger, so if you use regular salt, it will be more salty. I would cut the salt in half if using regular.

These look absolutely amazing and I’m so excited to try them! One quick question though? Your recipe says semi sweet chocolate chips, but the picture shows milk chocolate….is one better than the other in your opinion??
Thanks so much for all your recipes – I’ve never had one that wasn’t fabulous!

  3. Mindy Vegter

Hey Jenny, they don’t sell malted milk powder where I live, or anywhere near where I live for that matter, could Ovaltine be used as a substitute or should I make my own malted milk powder?

  4. Sweet and Simple Magazine-April

These look seriously amazing! I am making them for the family tomorrow for Sunday night treats. xo

These would definitely satisfy my intense chocolate cravings lately – I could devour a dozen! I love that they’re so easy, too!

The recipe says 2 sticks of butter but in your picture it looks like they are the quarter cup sticks of butter. Please clarify if it’s 1 cup of butter. Thank you! I can’t wait to make the cookies!

  13. Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine

Ohhh my word. These look absolutely fabulous. I’m a huge fan of malted milkshakes, so I better give these a try!

    1. Judith Janes

Attention all you malt lovers: when I was a kid, Carnation made a chocolate malted ice cream bar, with chocolate malted milk ice cream center, dipped in dark chocolate and covered with chunks of crushed malted milk balls. I still remember it even though it was more than 50 years ago! Sadly, they no longer make it.

I am totally in love with your green mixer! And these cookies! Pudding in cookies is the best, and the malt powder addition is pure genius girl! Pinned!
