Homemade Magic Shell

Tags: ,

I have been making this simple homemade magic shell for the boys for so long that it never occurred to me to share the recipe, lol!  It’s so easy I just figured everyone knew about it.

Well, if you don’t sit back and watch how simple it is to prepare your own 2 ingredient magic shell right at home!

Start with 1 Cup chocolate chips.  I used semi-sweet.

Pour those chips into a nice heat proof bowl and microwave until melty.

They’ll look all shiny, like this 🙂

With a dry, clean spoon stir those chips until melted and smooth.

Pour in 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and stir stir stir.

You’ll get a shiny, smooth sauce that will soon become magic shell over your ice cream!

Break out a cute ice cream bowl with a nice scoop of ice cream inside.

Time to drizzle that sauce!

Get crazy, add as much or as little as you like.

Wait about 60 seconds and your sauce turns into hardened chocolate, woohoo!

Homemade Magic Shell

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  1. Place chocolate in heat proof bowl and microwave until melted, about 60-75 seconds depending on your microwave. Stir until creamy then drizzle in vegetable oil until well combined, shiny and smooth. Drizzle over ice cream, wait about 60 seconds for sauce to harden and enjoy your homemade magic shell. Place leftover sauce in airtight container and keep room temperature for 2 days. Microwave for 30 seconds before using again.

Makes 1 cup Magic Shell Sauce

*Some people use Coconut oil from what I’ve been told that works great too*

Thanks a lot for the recipe!! i’v been searching for the recipe for a while, all what i’v got was with coconut oil, i was troubled because i and my sisters hate the smell of it, it will be a big mistake to use it! so i am happy to now that i can use ordinary veg oil..i will just add a bit of coconut oil since everyone says it makes it harder and more crunchy!! THANKS AGAIN,,AND A LOT 🙂

Thank you for posting this. I was wondering if this would work with an oil other than coconut and now I know! My son wants an ice cream cake for his birthday and I have to make it myself since he’s allergic to coconut and basically all tree nuts.

I did not know one could make their own Magic Shell at home. This recipe is perfect! Now I can make ice cream shell with only two ingredients! And with different flavors of baking chips and a little bit of peanut butter, the combinations are numerous!
