What You’ll Need

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make this delicious cookie at home. See the recipe card located at the bottom of the post for full details and instructions.

  • butter– For most of my recipes I use salted butter. Make sure the butter is softened.
  • butter flavored shortening– Find shortening in the baking isle of the grocery store.
  • granulated sugar- This fine white sugar gives the cookies their sweetness.
  • brown sugar– Light brown sugar is what I used for the cookies. Make sure you pack it in the measuring cup.
  • large eggs– For consistency, I use large eggs for my cooking and baking.
  • all-purpose flour– Flour is the main dry ingredient in the cookie recipe.
  • quick oats– Find quick oats in the baking or breakfast section of the grocery store. Use a blender or food processor to crush. You can also put the oats in a ziplock and roll a rolling pin over it until crushed slightly.
  • baking soda– Baking soda helps the cookies rise during baking.
  • kosher salt– This coarse salt is commonly used in cooking and baking. I prefer it to table salt.
  • Reese’s Pieces– Find a larger bag in the candy section of the grocery store, or a few small bags will work too.
  • chocolate chips– Use your favorite chocolate chips. Milk or semi-sweet.

Do I Have To Use The Shortening In The Recipe?

You are welcome to substitute butter for the shortening in the recipe. The cookies may have a slightly texture than what is pictured here, but they’ll still be delicious.

Recipe Tips For Success

  • Soften butter before making cookies.
  • Cream butter and sugars for a good 2 minutes for that great texture when baked.
