What You’ll Need
Here are the simple ingredients you’ll need to make cookie bars at home. See the recipe card located at the bottom of the post for full details.
- Butter– For most of my recipes I use salted butter. Unsalted works too.
- Brown Sugar, Dark– Dark brown sugar is deeper in color and has more molasses in it. It is located by the light brown sugar.
- Granulated Sugar– This fine white sugar adds sweetness to the bars.
- 2 Large Eggs– For consistency, I use large eggs in my cooking and baking.
- Pure Vanilla Extract– For best tasting results use pure vanilla.
- All-Purpose Flour– Flour is the main dry ingredient in the bars.
- Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix– Find the pudding mixes near the cake mixes in the baking isle of the grocery store.
- Baking soda– Baking soda helps the cookie bars rise during baking.
- Kosher Salt– Kosher salt is a course salt commonly used in cooking and baking. I prefer it over table salt.
- Mini Chocolate Chips– Find mini chocolate chips near the regular chocolate chips in the baking isle.
- Mini Kit Kat Bars– Find mini or regular size Kit Kat bars down the candy isle of your grocery store.

Tips For Making The Best Cookie Bars
- Don’t alter the recipe, use all ingredients as listed.
- Always use butter, not margarine. I prefer salted butter for my chocolate chip cookies.
- Don’t skip creaming your butter and sugars for a good 1-2 minutes. Helps create a fluffy, chewy cookie bar.
- Try sprinkling dough with just a touch of salt for a perfect sweet and salty combination.
- Don’t overtake your cookie bars. Bars will continue to cook in hot baking dish when removed from oven.
- Let cookies cool completely before cutting into squares and storing in containers. This will keep their crispness.
- Store leftover cookies in an airtight container for 3 days room temperature.
How To Serve
Serve Kit Cat Bars for any occasion that dessert is needed. Room temperature is best.
How To Store Leftovers
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Does not need refrigerated.
Freezing Instructions

Thanks for posting this! Made them today and thought they were good. One thing I would change for next time is the bake time. I baked for 35 mins and they were over done. I know every oven is different but mine is usually spot on when I choose the lowest time on the scale. Otherwise, a good chewy bar!
