Keto Mug Bread

For those of you on a low carb, keto friendly diet, you are about to have your mind blown by this mug bread that is cooked in the microwave in under 3 minutes. It’s perfect eaten alone or as bread for a sandwich or dipping in soup.

Ingredients For Keto Mug Bread

  • salted butter– Salted butter gives a little more flavor that unsalted, so I recommend using salted butter for this recipe.
  • super fine almond flour– Find almond flour in most grocery stores baking section. If you have Sprouts, that’s where I find mine. Check Amazon as well.
  • baking powder– find in the baking section of your grocery store.
  • kosher salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • large egg– I use large eggs for all of my baking needs.
  • shredded cheese– I like to use shredded cheddar cheese for my mug bread, but any variety will work great. Pepperjack would be amazing as well.
  • heavy cream– Don’t substitute the cream, it gives richness and texture to the bread.
  • crumbled bacon– I generally use the ready bacon that you can microwave quickly to crumble.
  • diced green chilies– If you are not a green chile fan, you can leave these out or even substitute with chopped jalapenos.
  • green onion– Green onion gives color and great flavor to the mug bread, you can substitute with white onion if needed.

How To Make Keto Mug Bread Recipe

  1. Place butter into bottom of mug of choice and microwave until melted, about 30 seconds. Add almond flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, egg, cheese, cream, bacon, green chilies and green onion. Stir to combine. Take a paper towel and clean edges and microwave for 2 minutes and 30-45 seconds. Remove mug from microwave and let cool for 2 minutes before removing. Use a knife to loosen edges if needed and carefully flip onto a cutting board. Use a sharp knife and gently cut bread in half. Enjoy plain, with butter or use as bread for a sandwich!

Once the butter is melted in your favorite mug, pour the rest of the ingredients as you’d like.

Feel free to substitute your favorite variety of shredded cheese in this recipe. Pepperjack cheese is great, Provolone and even Gruyere.

Once your ingredients are in the mug, use a spoon to stir to combine.

Once combined, use a damp paper towel to clean inside edges of mug.

How Long Do You Cook Keto Bread?

Each recipe will be different, but for my Loaded Keto Mug Bread takes approximately 2 minutes, 45 seconds to cook.

Take cooked mug bread out of the microwave and run a knife around the edges to loosen. Let cool for a couple minutes before removing.

Remove keto mug bread from your mug. Depending on how small or large your mug is, your bread will vary in height and width.

How To Serve Keto Mug Bread

You can enjoy the bread plain, topped with butter and used as bread for a sandwich.

How To Store Leftovers

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Warm up as needed.

  • 1 tablespoon salted butter
  • 1/3 cup super fine almond flour I use Bob's Red Mill
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
