Lumpia Recipe

This simple fried lumpia are perfectly sweet and creamy that taste just like the ones you get at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at The World of Avatar, “Pongu Pongu.” Disney Parks Blog shared the recipe back in 2017 and it’s such a fun recipe to make at home. Let’s take a look at the process.

What You’ll Need

  • egg roll wrappers– Find egg roll wrappers in the refrigerated section of the grocery store.
  • cream cheese– Use full fat cream cheese.
  • diced pineapple– Fresh or canned pineapple works just fine. Fresh is my favorite.
  • granulated sugar– Granulated sugar adds sweetness to the pineapple filling.
  • canola oil– You’ll use oil to deep fry the lumpia and is used to roll hot lumpia in after frying.

How To Make Pineapple Lumpia Recipe

  1. Place one spring roll or egg roll wrapper onto a piece of parchment paper at a time, to prevent them from drying out.
  2. Cut softened cream cheese into 10 equal pieces. Place one piece of cream cheese in the center of the spring roll and spread evenly on wrapper, leaving a 3/4-inch border around the edges. Add 3 tablespoons of diced pineapple and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar.
  3. Roll one edge of the wrapper towards the center. Fold in both sides and continue rolling. Moisten the edge with water to seal the lumpia. Repeat with remaining spring roll wrappers.
  4. Place lumpia on a parchment lined baking sheet, cover with foil and freeze for at least 1 hour or overnight if you want to make ahead of time.
  5. Preheat 1 inch of oil in a frying pan to 350 degrees F.
  6. Fry lumpia for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Roll in remaining sugar while still hot, before serving.

Yes you can. My grocery store only had eggroll wrappers and it worked just fine for the recipe.

While rolls are still hot, roll in remaining sugar. I added more sugar to the bowl for easier rolling. I even added 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon to the sugar. Try that for another option!

    Notes

    • If you can't find spring roll wrappers, egg roll wrappers work just fine too.
    • Add about 1/4 cup more granulated sugar to what's left from the filling so it's easier to roll hot rolls.
    • Try adding ground cinnamon to your bowl of sugar when you roll the hot rolls before serving. We loved the addition.

This looks so good! I have some spring roll wrappers tucked away and wasn’t sure what to use them for. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Crystal, I think canned pineapple would be just fine. Drain it well and pat it dry with paper towels. Make sure you dice the pineapple in small dices 🙂
