How to Make The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
Scoop your dough as usual onto your favorite cookie sheet.
Press your dough down slightly like so before baking.
Here’s what you get. Heaven.
The texture to these cookies are quite fabulous. Get baking!
This batch was baked for 10 minutes exactly. Slightly underdone which makes them soft and lovely. I did another batch at about 13 minutes which was browned and firmer. I enjoyed both batches, lol! Try one of each and see what you like. Store your cooled, leftover cookies into an air tight container. Try chilling in the refrigerator. They’re amazing cold too. Enjoy!

Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
Equipment
- Oven
Ingredients
- 1 stick/1/2 cup unsalted softened butter
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. and line a cookie sheet with a silpat liner or parchment paper.
- Cream your butter and sugars in a stand mixer until light and fluffy, a good 2 minutes. Add egg then vanilla beating to combine. Add flour, cornstarch, baking soda, salt then chocolate chips, mixing until combined. With cookie scoop, scoop dough onto prepared cookie sheet. Press dough down to flatten slightly. Bake for 10-12 minutes until baked through. 10 minutes will be softer cookies, 12 minutes will be browned.
- Let cool for 10 minutes on baking sheet before transferring to cooling rack. Serve with milk 🙂
Don’t know what went wrong but they were so dry. 4-1/4 cups of flour seemed excessive.
Found this recipe on yummly. These cookies are delicious! The cornstarch makes them soft and not crunchy. Took these to an event tonight and they all got eaten. Enjoy!
These are the best!! I don’t know what it is in the recipe that makes these so delicious but I can honestly say that these are better than the toll house chocolate chip cookie recipe.
arenthere any high altitude directions?
I have been looking for a good recipe for a while, and I’ve tried so many! This one is perfect! The cookies, came out perfect. Thank you!
The smallest batch of cookies ever! If you are making them for the holidays double up the recipe!
Just made these, very tasty! Little disappointed they didn’t stay soft once cooled, next time I will cook for 9 min lol. Will be baking these again though 🙂
I love this recipe! Just shared it on my blog today! 🙂

Hi! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I really enjoy reading through your
articles. Can you suggest any other blogs/websites/forums that go over the same topics?
Appreciate it!
These are by far the best chocolate cookies I’ve ever made…and tasted!!! These will be my “go-to” from now on. Thanks!!!
So glad to hear it Maria, thanks for the feedback.
Każdy z nas zetknął się z problemem, polecam zaznajomienie się z przedmiotem.
These cookies r delish! Added a third of the sugar and half the choc chips, but also used mini, also substituted cashew meal for half of the flour. Absolutely delicious! Thank you!!!
I am in search for my perfect cookie recipe, which is a soft/chewy on the inside, kinda crispy on the outside, and flat/thin and so I found this on pintrest and it looked really good and easy to make. I just made these and it didn’t look as flat as the ones in the pictures (which is understandable since you never said this is supposed to be super flat) but holy cow these tasted great and they’re so soft it just melts in your mouth. Everybody loves these and they still look great AND it stays soft for days. Thank you for the recipe! If I don’t find a better recipe, which I doubt I will, this is definitely THE ONE.
I’ve made these at least once a week since I found this recipe. They are amazing!
My husband and I have been on the search for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe. After what seems like a billion recipes, I came across this one tonight… HANDS DOWN the absolute best cookies we’ve made!
Hi Katheryn, thank you for your comment!! I’m glad you love them. 🙂
Man…..major fail. One huge mess. DON’T make this at all………..somebody’s idea of a joke, I suppose.
I’ve been looking for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe for a long time, and after discovering this recipe, I’ve finally found it! Thank you so much for sharing this lovely recipe!
These also taste AMAZING with one cup of caramel bits and one cup of chocolate bits! — so so so good!
Soooo glad to hear it Kate! Thanks for the feedback!
I think I just found the holy grail chocolate chip cookies! Just made a batch of these and they were amazing! It was a bit too much chocolate chips for me though, so I’ll cut down a bit on that next time. Pinning this for future baking! Thanks 🙂
I made these for our beach trip next week. They are so good. Can’t wait to share them with our friends, pool side. 🙂
Do you know how much extra flour I should add for high altitude?
Is this 1 and 1/2 sticks butter?
Just made these for my younger brother’s varsity football banquet. My new ABSOLUTE favorite classic chocolate chip cookie recipe and go-to from now on! SO delicious and gooey!
These cookies are amazing! I just baked a batch, but I used a mixture of chocolate chips and chopped Reese’s peanut butter eggs as I’m trying to get rid of some Easter candy. Hands down the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever made!
These are fantastic. I love this recipe, it’s my new go to for chocolate chip!! I was even inspired to make a giant cookie using this recipe and everyone that came over for Easter loved it.
Thanks so much Jenny.
So glad to hear it Anne Marie! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Thanks for the great recipe. I made these about an hour ago and they are wonderful!
Great recipe!! Thank you for sharing.
Hi, i’ve read some blogs where they suggest to keep the dough in the fridge for awhile before baking. Is it a need to do that for your recipe?
Making these while stuck inside becuase of the blizzard. Didn’t have 2 cups of chocolate chips so I am adding toffee, one cup of each chocolate chips and toffee..can’t wait to see how they come out!
Jenny – I made these this morning and they just didn’t come out right I followed the recipe exactly. I am a little confused about the butter. Is the recipe for 1 stick and 1/2 cup of butter or are you just indicating that 1 stick is a half a cup…kind of confusing. I don’t know what went wrong. The dough was really crumbly and the cookies didn’t stay together. Some of the cookies on the sheet were under cooked and some were over cooked. Ugh, I really wanted these to work!
Hi Samantha, it is just 1 stick of butter which is also equal to 1/2 cup. I wonder what went wrong, I make this recipe all of the time.
I made these cookies for my family on Sunday, they were gone by Monday evening. We all agree these were the best chocolate chip cookies ever!
Just found your site today thanks to my sister….these look delicious so i just whipped them up and they are baking right now! I was a little short on both sugars but that’s okay…can’t wait to try them!
I’m back! They are done, made exactly as directed – cooked 12 minutes and they are perfect! Thanks for the recipe, this is replacing my old chocolate chip cookie recipe!
These were great! I made them tonight except I used 1 cup of dark chocolate chips and 1 cup of semi-sweet! They were the perfect chewiness!
Yay! So glad to hear it!
I also added a teaspoon of cream of tartar and increased the mixing times for the first and second mixings. My sister in law taught me both of those techniques and they really help to keep the dough soft. These were great cookies. Thanks for the recipe!
The cookies are very tasty but mine did not turn out soft! Any idea about how that could have happened? I followed the recipe and measured exactly.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this recipe! I just made it for my roommate and boyfriend, and my boyfriend just said,”I think my grandmother just rolled over in her grave, these are the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had.” I hope this is the tipping point that leads to the ring?
Too cute! So glad you enjoyed!
I love soft batch cookies – I will need to try that cornstarch trick for sure!
Oh gosh, is it ok to make cookies for breakfast? These look so good! I keep seeing corn starch in cookies lately, I think I’m finally going to have to try it!
It is only 10:40 here and you just made me crave cookies! They look delicious. I love soft cookies over crunchy ones.
I’m always looking to try a new chocolate chip recipe! This one is fabulous!
I knew I had to bake these when I saw your new post. Baked them & they are really good! Tagged you to a picture of these awesome cookies on instagram & so happy you left a comment. Thank you for the recipe!!
These are on my baking list for this week end! Love!
Those look fabulous! I am surprised that simply adding a bit of cornstarch makes them so soft. I will definitely try these.
These look great! I love a soft and chewy cookie.
Love soft cookies and these look perfect, Jenny! I’m going to have to make a batch asap.
As I was in the middle of making cupcakes once, I realized I didn’t have enough eggs. I googled egg substitutes and corn starch came up. I subbed some of the eggs for the cornstarch, and they came out so moist and soft! Hadn’t thought to try it with cookies, really looking forward to trying these!
I’ve seen the cornstartch addition but haven’t tried it myself. However, I think we all know that I am going to need to after staring at these cookie pictures 🙂 Thanks for the recipe!
Hmmm…I wonder how well that would work for a peanut butter cookie?
Those look wonderful! Soft and chewy just like a good cookie should be.
Thanks for sharing,
~Caroline
oh man, I said I was going to do better in the coming weeks about eating sweets – I’m 26 weeks pregnant so I know I’ll need to be checked for gestational diabetes soon, AND I just ate about 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies that I made last week all by myself. I think I’ll just bookmark this recipe for February 🙂
Keep ’em comin’!
Interesting… I’ve never seen a non gluten-free cookie recipe with corn starch… brilliant. In gluten-free baking, it gives things a nice ‘chew’ factor. I didn’t think gluten containing cookies would need them because of the natural glue from the gluten would do the trick. Will definitely have to share this little tid bit!
i have been dying to try this cornstarch “trick”. after seeing these I realize I need to get on it NOW. these look amazing.
mmmmm soft cookies are my favorite!! can’t wait to give these a try! Thanks lady!!
These cookies look scrumptious, Jenny!
Those look divine and “lighter” than typical chocolate chip cookies. Yummers!
If I’m going to be indulging in cookies, this is exactly the sort of thing I want to be munching on. The softer the better!
Would it be OK to munch a few of these GIANTS at one time……Mmmmmmm 🙂
These look heavenly! It’s not even noon yet and I want cookies 🙂
Jenny, we have to make these! (We, meaning the students and I). We’re already drooling over here!
Soft Cookies are the best. These look just divine!
I saw that idea on Pinterest too, so glad to know it works! Soft batch cookies are the best!:)
These look so perfectly delicious, but now I really want a cookie….and it’s only 10:30 AM!! haha
Man, sometimes a soft chewy cookie really hits the spot. I still think my favorite is more of a classic chocolate chip cookie but a soft one now and then certainly doesn’t hurt.
Yum yum yum.
Sigh… SIGH….. What I would give for a dozen of these and a tall frosty glass of milk!
yep, cookies forever! and I can vouch for the cornstarch-soft cookies for sure. love this, jenny!
Totally adore soft batch style!!! These will be a Must Make for me!
I’m a firm believer that you can never have too many chocolate chip cookie recipes and this one looks amazing!
We LOVE chocolate chip cookies around here!!! I’m really curious about the cornstarch too…since yours look so amazing, I obviously need to try it!!
I LOVE soft cookies!! These look like little pillows of goodness!
One can never have too many chocolate chip cookie recipes! Love the cornstarch addition- these do look so soft and chewy! I want some right now to finish with my coffee 🙂
I so have to try these!
Simple and fabulous. I just love those chocolate cookies. For ever ! 🙂
Soft cookies forever! 🙂
Mmmm soft chocolate chips cookies are my absolute favorite! Nothing beats them, thanks for sharing this recipe!
I made almost this exact recipe a couple months ago! The cornstarch cookies have changed my life! I tweaked it by using a combo of bread flour and allpurpose, and chocolate chips and chunks, but the dough base in the same. Yours look so good!
When I print recipies some of the insructions don’t completly print.
