What You’ll Need
Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make Oreo Stuffed Cookies at home. See the recipe card located at the bottom of the post for full details and instructions.
- Salted Butter– For most of my recipes I use salted butter, but unsalted is just fine here too.
- Light Brown Sugar– The light brown sugar also brings the sweetness to the cookies.
- Granulated Sugar– This fine sugar brings the sweet to the cookies.
- Large Eggs– For consistency use large eggs for your baking.
- Pure Vanilla Extract– For best tasting results use pure vanilla extract.
- All-Purpose Flour– Flour is the main dry ingredient for the cookies.
- Kosher Salt– This coarse salt is commonly used in cooking and baking. Find it near the table salt.
- Baking Soda– Baking soda helps the cookies rise during baking.
- Mini Chocolate Chips– Find the mini M&M’s near the candy section in most grocery stores. Regular size are fine too if you can’t find the mini.
- Mega Stuf Oreo Cookies- Double Stuf or Mega Stuf Oreos work best. You can really see the Oreo Cookie layers when cookies are cut in half.

How To Make Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies
Preheat Oven. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. and prepare baking sheet.
Cream Butter and Sugars. In a stand or electric mixer cream butter and sugars until well combined.
Eggs and Vanilla. Add in eggs and vanilla until well combined.

Dry Ingredients. In a separate bowl mix the flour, salt and baking soda.

Chocolate Chips. Slowly add to wet ingredients along with chocolate chips until just combined. I prefer to use mini chocolate chips for this recipe. They don’t stick out while you’re wrapping the cookie dough around the Oreo cookie. If you can find the mini chocolate chips, you’ll find they’re better to work with.

What Type Of Oreo Cookie Should I Use?
The Mega Stuf Oreo Cookies are my favorite to use for this recipe, but you can use any Oreo variety you’d like.

Wrap Cookie Dough Around Oreos. Using a cookie scoop take one scoop of cookie dough and place on top of an Oreo Cookie.

Cookie Dough. Take another scoop of dough and place on bottom of Oreo Cookie.

How To Stuff Your Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies
Seal Edges. Seal edges together by pressing and cupping in hand until Oreo Cookie is enclosed with dough. Carefully pinch all sides and use both hands to press like you are making meatballs. You want it nice and tight, but be gentle so the Oreo doesn’t break inside.

Seal Tightly. Your Oreo stuffed cookie dough should look like this. A slightly flattened ball.

Bake. Place onto a parchment baking sheet and bake cookies 9-13 minutes or until cookies are baked to your liking. Let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to cooling rack. Serve with a tall glass of milk, enjoy!

How To Serve Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
Once cookies have cooled, use a sharp knife to cut in half to serve. It’s fun to have them halved on a serving plate so your guests can see the inside.
Tips For Making The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Don’t alter the recipe, use all ingredients as listed.
- Always use butter, not margarine. ALWAYS. I prefer salted butter for my chocolate chip cookies. Try it!
- Do not ever grease your cookie sheets. Will make cookies spread and change texture. I love using Parchment paper.
- Don’t overtake your cookies. Cookies will continue to cook on hot cookie sheet when removed from oven.
- Let cookies cool completely before storing in containers. This will keep their crispness
How To Store Leftovers
Store leftover cookies in an airtight container for 3 days room temperature.

Hi! I would just like to ask what’s the size of the scoop you used? 🙂 I’ve been meaning to try this out!!
These look so great! Will try them with mini oreos!!
These look amazing! Question tho, why are mine soooo huge?
I made this for a Neighborhood pot luck and I got so many ooh and ahhs – rightfully so. This is a fantastic recipe and idea altogether.
http://oliepants.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/chocolate-chip-cookie-covered-oreos/
I made these for my family, my dad kept eating them saying “these aren’t right… they are good, but sooo not right…” anyway, they’re all gone!
I tried making these cookies followed the directions carfeully but they turned out like ufo’s. even after chilling the dough and adding more flour they still were ufo’s….
I made these cookies for Thanksgiving and they were a HUGE hit!! I mixed the dough and shaped the cookies the day before I needed them, so that I could just bake them and head out the door the following morning. I set the cookies out for about and hour before baking them. I baked mine between 16-18 minutes, although I’d probably do about 1-2 mins. less next time. I used a melon baller (holds about 1 tablespoon) and regular sized Oreos (So, 2 tbsps. of dough for each Oreo). It was just the right amount of dough to cover each Oreo. They baked beautifully and didn’t spread out at all (a common problem others have had). As long as the dough is chilled the cookies won’t spread. These cookies were huge!! Everyone who ate them said “oh, there’s another cookie in there”. Delightful!!
These were amazing! I just made a batch and my housemates gobbled them up! Great recipe.
Wonderful! So glad you enjoyed!
Have you ever tried oreo stuffed cake bites? They are sooooooooo good. The recipe can be foung on my website/blog 🙂
Greets from Germany
Just made these and they turned out great! They look better than the picture… not quite sure how I managed to do that! They kept in a ball shape and did not spread out. A little big for me. If I try them again I might try to use mini oreos.
Wow! looks very yummy!
Could anyone tell me how much is the 2 sticks of butter?
In Europe we have no sticks but other measurement.
I’d love to try these, because OREO we have (yum-yum) but I’m afraid to start it without knowing the amount of butter precisely.
Thanks. 😀
1 stick of butter = 1/2 cup. So, 2 sticks as called for in this recipe equals 1 cup of butter (16 tbsp.)
I made these about twenty minutes ago. The dough was nothing like pictured, it kept sloughing off the cookie even after adding almost twice the flour to thicken the dough. I’m going to try chilling the dough and maybe it will help next time.
Chilling the dough should help…but certainly don’t add twice the amount of flour. Baking is a science. Use a little less dough around each Oreo.
Just posted about these (and linked back to you) on my site. They are so amazing!! http://themommygames.wordpress.com/2012/10/03/cooking-the-blogs/
is it ok if i change baking soda into baking powder?
Nope!
how much is 2 sticks of butter?
1 stick = 1/2 cup (8 tbsp.)
I would like to know how many tablespoons your cookie scoop holds. In searching for a cookie scoop online, I’ve found ones that vary from 1 to 4 tablespoons. The photo of yours with the cookie dough suggests that there is much more than one tablespoon of dough, but photos can be misleading. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
A previous comment from Jenny stated that her cookie scoops hold 1/4 cup (4 tbsp.)
I just found this website a few days ago, and I’m already loving it! This recipe is great for a potluck or for the cookie monster in your life (my dad)! Oreos or my dad favorite store-bought cookies (When it comes to homemade, it has to be his moms homemade cookies), and when we went to Sea-Fair, we parked next to a boat who made these cookies, and ever since my dads been wanting some! So, I just made this recipe yesterday, and let me that they look amazing and taste even better! To my surprise, they look like yours too! I thought for sure that I would mess this up somehow, but I was wrong! This is an amazing recipe and my dad will love it when he gets home today! 🙂 🙂
I made these but I used the unbaked oven ready cookies in a cookie brownie recipe. It was the most amazing thing ever.
How did you get them to not spread out soo much? Mine didn’t look very good.
Chill the dough for a 20-30 mins.
Thanks for sharing this great recipe! I did it for my friend’s birthday and it was very well received 🙂
These never cease to amaze! I just need to remember that the cookie doubh needs to be a bit stiffer than my normal chocolate chip cookies 😉
I’ve made these cookies numerous amount of times, and each time they are gone in seconds! WARNING: Do not consume more than 3, your stomach will hurt according to all my guy friends! hahaha
I might make these tomorrow for my mom. She broke her leg 🙁 now i need to head over to walmart to get oreos!
Thanks for the recipe! I’m making these for our father’s day dessert, I’m sure they will be a huge hit!
“happy eating and exercisng”
and exercising is def right. these are loaded w calories but look so good.
i’m not an oreo fan bc of how it messes w my digestive system, but i do love choco chip cookies.
Thank you so much for this excellent recipe!
I just made a batch for my last English class here in Barcelona.
Here it’s hard to come by vanilla but they seem to have turned out fine without it.
My students are sure to be amazed by how sweet America can be.

My Daughter made these and I actually have a picture of it on my Pinterest. So much fun.
how big is the cookies scoop cause i dont have one
It holds about 1/4 cup 🙂
Oh my goodness. I literally just discovered your site about 15 minutes ago and already have about 50 recipes saved to try. I am DEFINITELY buying your cookbook! I wish I knew about you and your beautiful and creative recipes earlier! I will be making these for this Sunday dinner with my in-laws! I’m super excited! Thank you 🙂
OMG those look yummy.
Could you please tell me what size cookie scoop you used? I made some of these but they expanded so much. I ended up with a large flat cookie with a raw mound of dough atop my Oreo. They never really cooked on top even after 18 minutes in the oven. I was hoping for the rounded cookie like pictured. Please help I have couple different sizes just curious if it is a size 30 or 40. Those 2 seem ideal.
