What You’ll Need

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make banana sheet cake at home. See the recipe card located at the bottom of the post for full instructions.

  • Butter– I use salted butter for my recipes, unsalted works fine too.
  • Granulated Sugar– This fine white sugar adds sweetness to the sheet cake.
  • Sour Cream– Use full fat sour cream for the recipe.
  • Ripe Bananas– Make sure your bananas are brown spotted and ripe for best results.
  • All-Purpose Flour– Flour is the main dry ingredient in the banana sheet cake recipe.
  • Ground Cinnamon– Cinnamon is used as part of the cinnamon roll flavors of the recipe.
  • Baking Soda– Baking soda helps the sheet cake rise during baking.
  • Salt– I use kosher salt in my cooking and baking.
  • Brown Sugar– I use light brown sugar for the recipe.
  • Cream Cheese– Use full fat cream cheese for the recipe.
  • Powdered Sugar– Powdered sugar is used to make the icing.
  • Milk– Ue 2% milk or higher for the recipe.

Recipe Tips For Success

  • Ripe Bananas. Make sure your bananas are brown spotted to give sweetness to the cake.
  • Brown Butter Icing. Don’t skip the brown butter step. It takes a little patience, but brings the best rich flavors to the icing.
  • Offset Spatula. An offset spatula helps so much to spread the icing on the warm cake. Highly recommend getting one.

This is hands down the best banana cake/bread/bar recipe I have ever tried. My grandson cannot have eggs so I am always trying to find delicious eggless recipes. I found that it is better the next day, firmer and bar like. I used 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder they came out higher than the ones shown. My family loves this recipe which makes me very happy!
