I was at my favorite Whole Foods Market at the District a few weeks ago and ran into a colorful little display of Revolution Food products. I was quickly drawn to them because I’m always looking for something healthy to add to my boys lunch boxes. The more I read about the products the more I LOVED! So, I picked up the Squeezable Fruit Mashups which is a brilliant idea of pureed fruit the kids can squeeze right out of the little package. My boys absolutely loved these. They call them their fruit smoothies. You can also freeze them for a fun treat and it even keeps the lunch box cold.

Even in high school, my mom would slip in a little note to let me know she was thiking about me. She always got creative too! She would pick little nick nacks up from the dollar store and put those in my lunch as well. I always looked forward to seeing what mom left for my afternoon break! I love my mom!!

I remember my favorite thing my mom used to make was “Turkey and Cheese Roll-Ups” which were breadless roll ups loaded with american cheese and a little bit of mayo!! My favorite day was also when she would send me a bag of Cooler Ranch Doritos or a Bagel with Salami and Cheese which was a RARE because she is a nutritionist so it was not a favorite lunch on her list!

Of course I remember the sweets the most, especially the different flavor puddings that used to come in huge packages (from Costco I think). Also, the absolute best strawberry fruit roll-ups ever. They tasted like real strawberries, nothing like the fake sugary stuff our kids eat now. I wish these same goodies were still around.

i remember homemade pudding in my lunch box. I was YUMMY. I make your peanutbutter finger mini cheescakes all the time, and my family loves them. thanks!

Do you remember those Pillsbury Food Sticks? I would sometimes get one of those in my lunch box and I loved it because it was astronaut food! Love your blog – discovered it about a year ago. I’ve made several of your recipes and they turn out perfect every time!

My mom always packed a Capri sun in our lunch…even if we didn’t have bread in the house we’d have our capri suns!

  7. Kimm Geria

I had peanut butter and Jelly and my mom would make me soup and put it in a thermos (and I would drop it and my soup would have glass in it back in he old days LOL).

I always LOVED the sandwiches that my mom would make on homemade bread. All of my friends liked them also, I could have traded those sandwiches for anything but I chose to keep them for myself.
    P.S. I’m a follower!

My mom was a health nut so I envied the kids with twinkies and ding dongs. I do remember she always cut my oranges in a weird way and I had 1/2 sandwich up through highschool.

I joined your friend list 🙂
I hated to open my lunch box and find graham crackers with frosting. Most kids would probably love that but not me! I was jealous of the kids with the Hostess Ding Dongs and Twinkies. Now I shudder.

My mother, bless her heart, always packed a wonderful lunch. I had to carry a large brown grocery bag containing two sandwiches, chips, fruit, and a few cookies along with a juice pouch of sorts. She would always pack a lunch for two, just in case a friend forgot theirs 🙂

Mom always packed healthy lunches for us, but what I remember the most was getting those special treats every now and then.. like boxed juices or peanut butter and marshmellow fluff and lunchables on field trip days. I also loved soup in my thermous on cold snowy days! She often always include a sweet note in my lunch too!

  13. Becky

My mom never packed ANYTHING store bought. Those were the days of good old cut up carrot sticks, baby carrots didn’t even exist!! Oh how times have changed for my kids!!

  14. Diana J

I remember getting the typical sandwich and chips, but sometimes my mom would write little messages on my brown lunch bag that made lunch special!

i remember my mom packing canned peaches…in an olive colored thermos….shows my age! 🙂

my lunches were pretty standard…PB&J, nurti-grain bar, apple, and a fruit-rollup. My mom would often write a little note on my napkin or a post-it, I always loved that!

I remember the lunch I got the most was Chunky PB and Grape jelly. YUM : ) Still think of my mom every time I make one of these sammies!!

I can’t follow on here because I am not on blogger..but I will add you to my blogroll! 🙂 I always used to love when my mom would pack subs in my lunch box. I have no idea why but I felt superior to kids who had pb and jelly. LOL … now I know better tho…Love the pb and jelly 🙂

    These products are so cute!

My mom tried to make a bunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in quantity and pull them out of the freezer for lunches one time. One time!! Because those sandwiches were NEVER eaten. They were so stinkin’ soggy and gross!!! Ugh!!

I do remember that she packed frozen grapes that I loved!!!

  20. Amanda

I used to love the cracker/breadstick with the processed cheese to dip in, also dunkaroos. Nothing beats fresh fruit though.

If only I had memories from the lunches my mom packed me…. but she didn’t. My mom hated packing lunches, so I had to eat the school hot lunch EVERY Day!! Lucky for me, my elementary school really made the food– yes home cooked food, every day. Their mashed potatoes with hamburger gravy was delicious!! 🙂

  22. Jen

So I may be a freak of nature but my two favorite things to eat in my school lunch were leftover hotdogs and bean and cheese tacos. I ate both cold. As an adult, I’m not sure if I’d go the cold route again but I have to say that bean and cheese tacos are still my favorite food (I came from San Antonio, I can’t help it!) and I still get crazy cravings for hotdogs now and then, especially at baseball games. 🙂

  23. Vicki Tunell

pb&j, chips, veggies and juice boxes. Almost always the same because I was super picky about what I ate for lunch. Still am 🙂

  24. Kate

    Hi Jenny,
I love your website! As far as my lunchbox was concerned…it usually was filled with a PB&J sandwich, a piece of fruit, chips or crackers, and a capri-sun. I always begged mom for LUNCHABLES, instead she made her own with Ritz crackers, cheese, and turkey cut up and placed in a Tupperware. Thanks for trying mom!

  25. G.

I’m a follower. My mom was really good at making our lunches with some variety. I appreciated that because I stil,l to this day love variety. One of my favorite things she used to pack me were homemade cookies. She was always baking and I always looked forward to eating one of her cookies at lunchtime. That, and fruit roll-ups, of course!

My little lunches were always packed in a plastic My Little Pony lunch box with a thermos of chocolate milk! YUMM I can remember having bologna and mayo sandwiches and loving every bite of it!! I don’t think I could force myself to eat that now.

  27. Ashley Arnold

My mom always packed me a frozen Hi-C drink box. At lunch, I cut off the top of the box and ate it like a slushie.

  28. Jenny L

By the time I made it to junior high I was so sick of sandwiches! I still have a hard time with most lunch meats. I always loved it though when my mom would pack homemade Lunchables!

  29. Tiffany

My mom never packed a lunch. I always ate at school or ate junk! Now I love to feed healthy snacks to my kiddos.
