I love this recipe because you can keep it simple with just cheese, bread and butter or really have some fun adding more toppings. You get to choose!
- Bread– I used a nice thick Texas Toast for my grilled cheese sandwiches. You can choose whatever bread you’d like.
- Butter or Mayonnaise– You’ll spread the bread for the grilled cheese sandwiches with butter or mayonnaise. I did one of each today!
- Cheese– I pick up sliced cheddar cheese, but really any cheese you prefer works great! Pepperjack, Provolone, Swiss….it’s all delicious!

How To Make Air Fryer Grilled Cheese
Spread. Spread one side of each piece of bread with your choice of butter or mayonnaise.
Add Cheese. Place buttered side piece of bread down into the air fryer basket. Add cheese and any other toppings you’d like. Add remaining piece of bread on top with buttered side up.
Cook. Cook grilled cheese at 390 degrees F. for 4 minutes then flip with long tongs and cook again for another 4 minutes or until golden brown and toasted.
Recipe Tips For Success
- Don’t Overcrowd. Be sure to not overcrowd your air fryer basket. The sandwiches should be in a single layer with room in between them.
- Garlic Butter. For another option try garlic butter for buttering your bread.

Storage Instructions
Refrigerate. Store any leftover grilled cheese in an airtight container or zip top bag in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheating Instructions. To reheat the grilled cheese sandwiches, place back into the air fryer basket and cook at 390 degrees F. for 3-4 minutes until hot.
