Easy Apple Pie Recipe

This is not your traditional apple pie recipe, but oh my goodness it is out of this world delicious and so so easy to make.  Why do I love to drizzle so much? Ha! I mean come on, salted caramel sauce and icing? It does NOT get better than this sinful little skillet of biscuit bites. I picture this being served for weekend brunch or for a late night sweet tooth craving. It’s warm, saucy and full of cinnamon spiced sweet apples. Break out your cast iron skillets and get your drizzle on 🙂

When you start with butter, you know it’s going to be good!

How To Make Easy Apple Pie Skillet

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Melt butter in 12 inch cast iron skillet over medium heat. Once melted add apples, cinnamon and brown sugar. Stir to combine and let cook for 5 minutes. Cut each biscuit round into 8 pieces (I keep cutting in half until I get 8 triangles). Place biscuit pieces into pan and gently stir into apple mixture. place half and half, egg yolk, brown sugar and cinnamon into a medium measuring cup, whisking to combine. Drizzle over biscuit mixture. Use a spoon to press biscuits into cream mixture evenly. Bake for 30 minutes, until set. Remove and drizzle with salted caramel sauce.
  3. Place powdered sugar into a small mixing bowl and whisk with cream until creamy and drizzling consistency. Drizzle over top of caramel layer. Serve warm.

  • 1/2 cup half and half

  • 1/2 cup prepared salted caramel sauce I used Trader Joe’s brand
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons heavy cream

      Yes. I made the apple mixture in a nonstick fry pan, then baked it in a warmed, glass 9×9, baking dish. Turned out great! May not have the crisp-ness of cast iron, but still delicious!

    Hello! Made this recipe this evening with SmartBalance spread instead of butter — and the eggs set, though it looked like the half & half curdled. Any thoughts? Too much heat? Or was it the oil in the SmartBalance that might have caused it to curdle?

    It was still tasty, just not as aesthetically pleasing.

    Also — any thoughts on the biscuit pieces clumping together? Or just put a few in at a time?
